Atlantic County, New Jersey Inmate Search

The general public may conduct an inmate search to determine whether an individual is currently held at a county jail in Atlantic City, New Jersey. Searching an inmate roster typically provides basic information, such as the individual’s full name, booking date, charges, bail amount, and custody status.

The Atlantic County Sheriff is one of the few in the state that does not operate local detention centers. The Department of Public Safety (ACDPS), headquartered at 5033 English Creek Avenue, Egg Harbor Township, NJ 08234, performs this function. It manages the Atlantic County Jail and the juvenile center at Harborfields, although the latter is currently contracted to a state agency.

Municipal police, such as the Atlantic City Police Department (ACPD) and the Egg Harbor Township Police Department (EHTPD), are the primary arresting agencies in the county. They operate temporary holding cells on their respective premises. These agencies typically transport arrestees to the central county jail within 24 hours, usually after an initial court appearance or if they are unable to post bond.

As there is no official online inmate roster for Atlantic County, searchers may contact the ACDPS for general custody information.

How to Find an Inmate in Atlantic County Jail

For privacy and security reasons, Atlantic City does not provide an official, scrollable, or searchable list of inmates for public inspection. Nevertheless, the public may still confirm if an individual is in custody by contacting the appropriate authorities.

People can request inmate information by calling the jail division’s records section at (609) 645-5855. Inquiries that include the inmate’s name and date of birth generally receive expedited attention.

Walk-in requests can be made at the ACDPS’s main office at 5033 English Creek Avenue, Egg Harbor Township, NJ 08234, or its adult detention division (main jail) at 5060 Atlantic Avenue, Mays Landing, NJ 08330.

How to Use the Atlantic County Jail Roster

Since there is no public list of Atlantic County inmate names or a jail roster to scroll through, searchers are expected to prepare meticulously before submitting verification requests to county officials.

Manual inmate lookups by phone or in person generally proceed smoothly when the individual provides the following information:

  • A full legal name, optionally including any known aliases
  • A full date of birth, rather than only a year or a month
  • Booking date, usually obtainable from the arresting agency
  • Proof of relation or guardianship, in special cases such as juveniles

How to Send Money to an Inmate in Atlantic County Jail

The Gerard L. Gormley Justice Facility allows inmates to receive money from external sources in a commissary account. People in custody may use these deposits to purchase personal items at the facility’s commissary.

Friends and family may deposit funds into an inmate’s account at the lobby kiosk during visiting hours using cash or a payment card, though in-person deposits at any other time are also accepted.

People can also send money to individuals in custody by calling the dedicated line at (888) 988-4768 and following the system prompts. The facility also offers an online option for inmate fund transfers, but this method requires users to register and sign in. Deposits made by phone or online may incur third-party processing fees.

To complete a deposit to an inmate’s commissary account, a depositor typically needs to provide the following information, though not all may be required:

  • The inmate’s first and last name
  • The inmate’s ID or jail number
  • The inmate’s date of birth

The facility accepts money orders or bank checks mailed as follows:

Atlantic County Justice Facility

Inmate’s Name, Inmate’s ID

5060 Atlantic Avenue

Mays Landing, NJ 08330

However, any money sent alongside personal correspondence to an inmate is considered contraband and will be confiscated.

Inmate Search by Jail Facility

Atlantic County does not provide an online roster that allows the public to search for inmates across all facilities or programs.

The Atlantic County Jail does not have a public, scrollable inmate list. The closest thing is the Atlantic County Visitation Scheduling System, where intending visitors can search each pod by name to locate inmates and view visitation eligibility. This system is maintained by a third party. The public may conduct standard roster inquiries through the jail’s main line at (609) 645-5855.

Further, N.J.S.A. 2A:4A-60 and other privacy laws make it an offense to display information about minors on a public, searchable portal. Accordingly, the Harborfields Youth Detention Center does not maintain a public roster. Legal representatives may contact the Superintendent’s office directly or by phone at (609) 965-3583 and must provide proof of guardianship.

The county’s various police departments do not maintain rosters for people in temporary holding because they are typically moved to Mays Landing within 24 hours. Individuals may call any department’s front desk for details of recent arrestees.
